Growing Readers with CommonGround Kansas

Growing Readers with CommonGround Kansas is a new literacy opportunity specifically for Kansas elementary school teachers and their students. The program consists of a CommonGround Kansas volunteer farmer or rancher coming to your class to read an age-appropriate book and share a bit about their farm or ranch.

The guest reader session generally takes 30 minutes. Our volunteer will be quickly introduced by the teacher, she will then read the age-appropriate book, and then answer any questions the students might have (about the book or about the guest reader's farm or ranch).

Every student will also receive a copy of the book read to them to add to their personal home library. There is absolutely no cost to the participating school, teacher, or students--everything is paid for by Kansas farmers who support the CommonGround Kansas program.

Due to the overwhelming amount of interest in this program, we have recorded a farmer reading as an additional tool for teachers. Feel free to use these readings in your classroom if you are unable to book a live farmer reading.
